I admit, Amiens wasn`t really on my radar as a French city to visit until Adam chose it as his first choice of placement for TAPIF. After some Googling, I agreed that Amiens was certainly a beautiful city and once he was accepted I knew I would have to visit Amiens at some point! For some reason we left Amiens until our last day trip of the Toussaint vacation…and I fell in love.
Amiens is absolutely gorgeous.
Located in the région of Picardy and the capitol of the Somme départment , Amiens is just over an hour north of Paris on the train. This little-known city is a very doable day trip from Paris.
Amiens`main attraction is the Our Lady of Amiens cathedral- it is the tallest completed cathedral in France (Beauvais` isn`t finished!) and has the largest medieval interior in Western Europe. The cathedral towers over the main square and is really breathtaking, with incredibly intricate carvings. The towers of the cathedral are open for tours- free for EU residents under 26!- but unfortunately the day we were there the tour guide was sick. We still had a great time exploring the inside of the cathedral- even finding a small memorial to both American and Canadian troops who defended Amiens during World War One. Continue reading
As some of you know, I recently had a 2 week school break, during which I visited Creil, Pierrefonds, Paris, Versailles, Beauvais, and Amiens, all amazing places in the north of France. I`ll go more into depth in future blog posts but pictures are worth 1000 words, right?

After only two weeks of working, I`m off on two week of (paid) vacation! Gotta love France! To pass these two weeks I`m heading to visit my boyfriend Adam who is working as an assistant in Creil, a suburb of Paris but in the Académie d`Amiens. We plan to take day trips to Paris, Amiens, visit the Palace of Versailles, and maybe visit some World War One battlefields or Lille. Stay tuned!
When I first studied abroad in Montpellier, I wrote a list of places that I wanted to visit while I was in France. After a very short period of time, the list looked like me listing every country in Europe. Well. I can’t do that in one year abroad- without totally blowing my bank account- so I had to narrow it down. This year, once again, I am taking off on a months-long European adventure, hoping to squeeze in some budget travel. The places I’m dying to visit this year are:
-Berlin
Berlin has been my #1 European travel destination for a while now! As a history buff, there’s so much to see in Berlin: Checkpoint Charlie, various WW2/Holocaust museums, the Reichstag, etc. I’d love to visit and be able to explore a major world capital that was once behind the Iron Curtain.
